Tonsil cancer Recurrence worry

Has anyone had a recurrence of their tonsil cancer following treatment.  My husband had chemo/radiotherapy in 2021 and told he had no sign of any cancer in Sept 21, but he noticed a slight swelling/fullness in his neck when he had a cold about 10 days ago and told the consultant at his review, the consultant could also feel it and said it could be related to his cold but has ordered a MRI to investigate it.  We are worried sick that it's come back, has anyone had any experience of this.

  • Hi JudyS,

I can understand this must be causing some concern - it's good to hear that it is being checked out and that the scan is booked, this will give some answers and I hope it's not too long to wait for the appointment for this.

I know it is easier said than done but try not to assume anything, and while you are waiting to hear more try to keep busy and take things a day at a time.

Meanwhile if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • I was sorry to hear that your husband had been feeling under the weather, it’s been some time since you posted so hopefully all turned out ok and it was just cold symptoms. My news isnt good I’m afraid. My Dad was diagnosed with Tonsil cancer in 2018 - he had all his treatments and was cancer free for 4 years and then unfortunately he developed a more of a sore throat than usual. After scans and tests he discovered the cancer had spread to his tongue and back of his throat. After another round of radio and immunotherapy sadly the treatment didn’t work and the tumor spread rapidly to the soft tissue in his jaw and cheek. By this time he was to weak to undergo any further treatment. He passed away last week and we are absolutely heartbroken. Please make sure that you seek treatment and advice as soon as you notice any changes and I pray that your husband has the fight in him to beat this awful disease. God bless x
