Tamoxifen sleep

Hi I am having trouble sleeping last few nights on tamoxifen any tips on this please maybe brand or tine you take the tablets any help appreciated. It maybe a temp thing I haven't had this before .

  • Hello Lara

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems sleeping at the moment. I know that some women here on the forum will have experienced similar issues whilst taking Tamoxifen.

I'm unsure if this is a new drug that you've recently started or if you've been taking it for a whilst. As the insomnia has only been happening the last few nights it's worth keeping a diary to see if you can pin down anything else that may be contributing to your sleeplessness.

If you take your medication before bed then it may be worth changing this and trying taking them earlier in the day. If you've recently changed the brand of medication then it's worth asking for a different brand next time your prescription is dispensed so that you can see if this makes a difference.

Hopefully this is just a blip while your body adjusts to the medication but if you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Wishing you a restful nights sleep.

thanks so much for your help and reply

  • Hi Lara

i am sorry to hear that you're not sleeping well, that's rubbish. The brand I have is TILLOMED not sure if this is the same one as you. I take mine first thing in the morning and so far so good. I have been taking them for about 4-5 months. Occasional noght sweats but that could be my age!

Anyway, sending my best wishes to you and hope your sleep pattern improves.

thays my perfect brand I had those so far but now have a relon brand which are so different in many ways , did you ask for this brand can you request certain brands I need that brand back .

    love Lara

  • Hi Lara

i am really not sure on that, maybe one of the breast care nurses can telll you more on that. I was just given this brand by my GP. Perhaps you could call your Pharmacy and say you are not sleeping since taking the new brand and they may refer to the other one.

I hope you get this resolved.

    Beat wishes

    Hi Lara,

I am mow a breast cancer survivor of 13 years. I had problems with certain brands of Tamoxifen and then, later on of Letrozole. My breast care nurse advised me to try taking them in the evening instead of the morning. This didn't work for me. She then advised that I returned to a previous brand of the drugs, which didn't have as many side-effects for me.

I just asked my pharmacist to chage back to the brand that I had been taking before. I understand that this is quite a common problem, so you should have no bother doing this.

I hope that you get back to sleping well again soon.

Please keep in touch and let ius know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Lara,

I didn't speak to the doctor at all. I went straight to my pharmacist after speaking to my breast care nurse.

    Kind regards,
