Da Vinci prostatectomy

I'm 73 and had my prostate removed 23/11/2022 came home the next day and felt reasonably well. By the following Sunday I was in extreme discomfort from constipation. This was sorted with a suppository but I was still afraid to strain to go.
I had my catheter removed 2 weeks later and after being told I would be incontinent I'm quite surprised at how well I'm doing I can now sleep without a pad and spend all day with no pad only using one if I go out for reassurance more than anything.
I didn't have nerve sparing surgery so I'm minus a few functions but I really don't need them anymore as my wife is very understanding. I just hope that at my 8 week check up that the PSA value is drastically reduced from the 20.2 it started at my prostate was 142 ml so I've lost a considerable amount of length in the area that men are concerned about but again with 6 children 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren I really am not bothered. As long as the cancer has gone I can live with the surgical consequences.

  • Hello Greatgrandad and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I am pleased to hear you are doing so well and that you can now sleep without a pad and regaining your quality of life.

It's lovely that your wife has been so understanding and that you have such a wonderfully positive attitude about everything. Wow, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, you must be super busy and a very happy and blessed grandad!

It's great news that the cancer has gone and I hope that you will have a wonderful Christmas with your big family.

    Best wishes,
