Difficult to get input from the oncologist especially if retired but you should perhaps get in touch with the breast surgeon at the breast unit in the hospital where the surgery was carried out for follow up advice regarding your adjuvant treatment without further delay.
Hi Bjellis,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
I had a lumpectomy in 2010 and a double masttectomy in 2011. I took Tamoxifen for the first year, but changed to Letrozole after that. I took Letrozole for 7 and a half years. At the time my consultant told me that they usually advised people to take this for 5 years, but that they were changing to 10 years in some cases. Because my type of cancer is not a very aggressive one, my consultant was happy for me to stop at that stage.
It is difficult to talk to your oncologist, when he has retired, but whoever has taken over from him should be able to advise you. Were you allocated a breast care nurse? If you phone them up, they will be able to arrange for you to discuss this with the new oncologist or your breast surgeon.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
