How many hot flushes per day on Tamoxifen

Been on Tamoxifen for just over a year now for breast cancer with radiotherapy. Hot flushes are worse than the beginning stages of tamoxifen. Now I can have flushes about every hour which leave my face dripping, and body and also during night. Also have heartburn issues recently so not sure if that is linked with tamoxifen. Anyone else got as many flushes in a day and during night and if there is any treatment to help alleviate the flushes. Thanks

  • Hello,

I have been on tamoxifen for about 2 years. Just the same as you I was almost continuously having hot flushes which left me dripping wet day and night.

I spoke to my oncologist and he suggested 2 medications to help, one that is usually used for high blood pressure and the other an antidepressant. They are used in a low dose. I opted for the antidepressant ( as my mood was low too). I was put on venlafaxine ( low dose) and the effect on the hot flushes was almost immediate. I still get warm sometimes but nothing like it was. I sleep better and generally am a lot happier. It is miserable when you are dripping all the time, makes you short tempered and sleep interrupted.

I have heartburn anyway but did find it a bit worse with tamoxifen. You can get help with that too.

Don't suffer, there is lots than can be done to help and hopefully you should feel like a different person soon.

    Best wishes, Jane.

  • Thanks for the reply, thank god its not just me I was reading that you could have one flush a day and I'm like mines are every 40 minutes. I will get in touch with breast nurse to see what they can offer me. Thank you Debbie
