Has anyone gone through a nipple reconstruction?

I had a mastectomy at the end of last year with an immediate reconstruction using my own tissue. I'm being offered a nipple reconstruction and think I'd like to go for it. My surgeon originally felt I wasn't suitable for the nipple-sharing technique where they use a portion of your remaining nipple. However he now thinks that's the best option. Does anyone have any experience of nipple reconstruction? Nipple-sharing sounds good in terms of symmetry but I'm worried that slicing off a bit of my remaining nipple will affect sensation. And I've already got enough numb bits! Would love to hear others' experiences. Thanks, Eliza

  • Hi Eliza,

You may be able to find some discussions about nipple reconstruction when using the 'search forum' option in the purple bar above but hopefully some of our members who have had this done will see your post and share their experiences and advice with you soon.

I hope this information I've found on nipple reconstruction will prove useful as well but if you would like to talk things through with someone then do give our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and will do all they can to help to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Wishing you all the best with your reconstruction when the time comes.

    Kind regards,
