Life After Tamoxifen, has anyone else had HRT post ER + BC?

I want to consider taking HRT after taking Tamoxifen for 8 years. I am currently on track to take it for 10 years.

If I do take HRT this may make BC return

If I don't take HRT I may...

Get osteoporosis

Get heart disease (This runs in the family)

Get dementia

Go insane from insomnia (a very real risk)

End up immobile due to persistent problems with any bendy bits of me (have suffered with tennis elbow, tendinitis in hips and wrists, back pain)

Dry up completely (eyes, skin, hair, nails)

Yes, taking HRT post ER + BC is a risk but so is the not taking of HRT.

How do you weigh up the risks, pros and cons?

All help gratefully received.

  • Hi Mrs_Me,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. There is quite a bit to consider with this decision and clearly both options have a number of pros and cons, so it is quite a personal decision.

My reply here will boost your post so a few more people should see it, and if anyone has similar experience or advice to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

If you feel you'd like to talk things through with someone, then do give your doctor a call. You are also welcome to call our nurses for a chat - they are available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
