Childhood cancer aftercare. What's it been like for you?

Other childhood cancer survivors, What has been your expereince of aftercare?

I rarely hear anyone else's experiences with aftercare. Whenever I have watched videos of other childhood cancer survivors experiences they don't often seem to mention much about their experience of aftercare.

My own experience has been...a bit complicated...The last time I attended the nurse I saw was lovley but I also had some quite upsetting experiences a while back which I felt very alone with and it definitely left an effect on me.

Of course being a childhood cancer survivor is quite a rare experience so most people don't have experience of these types of appointments. You don't really have anyone to compare experiences with because its not something most people deal with.

I thought here may be the best place to post and Id be interested to know what others experience has been or if anyone else had any kind of similar experience? obviously only share if/what you're comfortable with.

*disclaimer: There are obviously many amazing nurses and aftercare specialists who care and were lucky to have the NHS. I'm not putting this out of anger , I just thought posting may be helpful in a way and just generally intrested in others expereinces with aftercare..

  • Hello justabout

I know that we recently had someone else posting looking to connect with anyone who had been through cancer as a child. I did a bit of searching and found this post made by [@Squirrels444]‍ back in March 2022.

It may be that you leave a comment on their post that they will reply to you.

We don't tend to have many people post on the forum who have been through cancer as a child but hopefully if there are any members who have this shared experience they will reply to connect with you.

    Best wishes,
