Hemiglossectomy and neck dissection. One year on.

Hi all, I had a hemiglossectomy and neck dissection in Dec 2020. I have a bottom dental prosthesis as all teeth on bottom were removed. Eating is a struggle. Jaws get tired and control of food in my mouth is very difficult. I greatly depend on altraplen for about 1500 cál a day. I'm gaining weight etc, but saliva builds up during conversation and speech is still very difficult. Any one else in the same boat. I do feel what I think is scar issue around my neck. Bothers me sometimes. Any replies greatly appreciated.

  • Hi

I had a similar operation at the same time however only five teeth removed. My main issue is also moving food around my mouth however I'm hoping a bit more surgery will remedy this.  I still have quite a dry mouth after the radiotherapy especially on a night whilst my neck is stiff on a morning. I'm quite vigorous with the massage techniques and this has got rid of most of the fluid around the scar.

    Cheers
