Returning to work

Hi,

After being away from work for 2mths shy of 2 years, I now have a return to work date - 17th May.

M head is already starting to get in a spin about it despite the fact that I've been going on about getting my life back to normal since what feels like, the day I was diagnosed!

Anyone have any tips about calming the anxiety over returning to work?

I don't think it's helping that I'm classed as being on holiday now for the next 2 weeks until my return date and my manager (as kind as this sounds) has told me to just stay at home on the 17th and we'll 'maybe do a meeting on the 17th' to discuss my return to work plan. I appreciate that that keeps thing 'loose' as they said but somehow more uncertainty is not helping the anxiety.

  • Hi,

Perhaps ask them if they can arrange the Return to Work plan over the phone with you in the next few days as the delay and uncertainty is causing you stress. They should arrange your return as per the Disability Act (as a cancer patient) making accomodations for you in the work place and arranging a phased return, building up your hours. They may feel they are being kind to you in the run up to your return but explain that it only adds to the uncertainty you have already suffered over the last 2 years. Having a plan earlier will give you time to accustom yourself to getting back to a new 'normal'.

Good luck, I hope it all works out well for you,

    Angie
