Hi
So, how do you guys shut out all the noise with your diagnosis and get motivated to work - despite cancer, a lot of us have to. I can end up in tears every hour. Help.

Hey! I worked through my chemo/surgery until we were all thrown into lockdown which is when my radiotherapy started. My cancer treatment finished in Nov all in all.
Your question is an interesting one and having reflected very deeply on how I, shall we say 'behaved' at work I've come to terms with. I was an utter ball of mess! Shouldn't have been there but I completely understand if people need to go to work for financial reasons or just to stay sane and keep some sort of normalcy.
What I will say, based on experience, is be careful with your working relationships in this situation. The workplace will say they will be supportive but there's only so much they can do. Be aware of running the risk of getting upset, someone saying the wrong thing and then due to the sheer overwhelming nature of a cancer diagnosis, how it impacts your mental health and how treatment can make you so fatigued that you suffer with the good old chemo brain, you can very easily take things people say completely out of proportion.
Please feel free to friend request me if you want to talk more.
Be kind to yourself. Try to get into meditation. There are some great vids on YouTube that can help you sleep and perhaps help toward any sleep difficulties and therefore brain fog which contributes to you being emotional.
Xxx
Thanks for the reply Coll, and thanks for thinking it over.
Will try the videos on youtube.
I did eventually got on with a bit of work, trying to do a bit each day and increase it when possible (2 weeks post op). I work in a family owned business so my family carers at the moment are also some of my co-workers. I need to do some work, it's hard making yourself, but I realise it will be for my own good (financially) but it may have a cost (physically).
Im realising day by day you can feel good or bad, weepy or happy. It's probably my hormones lol!
