I took out life insurance 3 years ago and was in exactly the same boat as you. I was diagnosed with cancer 10 years ago and had been in remission for 5 years at the point that I was trying to take out insurance.

I did a lot of online quotes that just ended when I answered the question 'have you ever had cancer?' With a yes.

In the end I used a financial adviser to help me find life cover and got a pretty good deal. It was a little bit harder to arrange but my adviser was fantastic and help me navigate it all.

The insurance company I ended up choosing offered me a good amount of cover on the basis that they required medical proof of remission and chance of recurrence. My GP sent them all of my medical information and the process became a lot more straight forward.

My premiums are still a little on the expensive side (I think I pay around £30 a month) and I couldn't take out critical illness cover as this took up the price astronomically, due to the fact that I have already been critically ill.

The way I see it, EVERYONE is at risk from cancer not just those who have a risk of recurrence so the struggle to find insurance astonished me.
