Critical Cover

So, I'm seeing my consultant tomorrow for a confirmed breast cancer diagnosis. It's been caught early and the docs, plus ultrasound team are 95%certain it is cancer.

I am obviously worried, but I'm more bothered about whether or not my critical illness cover will pay out. In the grand scheme of things, I know I'll survive the cancer, but what I've read so far indicates my CIC may not cover me. Money is going to be an issue while I undergo treatment, so it's why I'm so worried about it. The disease and treatment doesn't scare me at all, since I know so many ladies who have gone through similar successfully.

I feel bad for worrying the CIC won't pay out and focusing on that. Anyone had problems though?

  • Hello TUL24

I hope that your appointment with the Consultant today went well and that they were able to give you some reassurance about your diagnosis and a treatment plan.

It's understandable that you're feeling worried about finances. I know it's something that a number of members here will have also had concerns about. I know that quite a few who have previously posted on the subject have said tha they found Macmillan were able to give them some good advice. You can find some details on their website here along with a contact number for an advisor.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks for your reply Jenn. After my appointment, I phoned my CIC provider, who advised me that since it's a Grade 3 breast cancer, the policy wording indicates it will be covered. They have started the claims process, which is a massive relief.
