ESA, what to do now?

Hi, am currently claiming ESA (support group) due to having cancer. I have now finished my treatment (still going every 4 months for check-ups) and have been told am in remission. My question is what do I do now about claming ESA as I have been unable to find any information out about this. Now am in remission and not having treatment anymore (just going for check-ups) do I need to inform the benefit people or not? When I was at my illness due to the chemo I find it very hard to do anything but now feeling better and looking for work again. I have not at any point been told what to do.

Many thanks for any help.

  • Hi,

As you're reovering from chemo, you're still entitled to ESA. I think it's for a year but don't quote me on that.

  • Hi

i finished treatment for stomach cancer in April last year, I returned to work in October but in December I went off sick again. I've not claimed anything in al this time but o saw an adviser at Macmillan and they told me to claim ESA so I'd imagine you should be able to still claim, maybe see someone at Macmillan for advice? If your treatment has left you with ongoing problems you may be entitled to PIP also, it's not means tested. Macmillan have just helped me fill out my form and said I should have been claiming it for months.
