Is it normal after an operation to remove a section of large bowel because of cancer and having a colostomy bag fitted to miss passing stools for 3 days??

Hi MikeA,
Unfortunately I'm not able to answer this question - it would be best to discuss this with your doctor if you can.
Alternatively if you'd like to discuss anything with our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.
Wishing you all the best,

Hi MikeA,
I've got a colostomy and I'd be concerned if I passed nothing for 3 days. If you're not passing wind either, I'd advise a call to your stoma nurse.
If you don't have a dedicated nurse then a visit to A&E is in order.
If you're in any pain or have a temperature, go to A&E anyway, you may have a blockage.
I had a significant stricture that needed a new op and I'm now susceptible to small bowel blockages. They can be life-threatening, so don't leave things another day.
Hope things turn out ok
Best Regards
Taff
