Will writing service - how much do people donate?

We need to change our wills but have no idea what sort of donation people make.  Being of modest means and wanting to support our family I would like some idea of what we should donate.  I don't want to start the ball rolling only to have to pull out!

  • Hi there, you can actually write your own will, just look on line to see who sells the paperwork.  It's easy to complete and as long as it's witnessed you should end up paying nothing.  Obviously if yiur finances are complicated then you may need a solicitor.  Carol

  • Hi,

If paying for a solicitor, a simple, straightforward will usually costs, on average, about £150 per person + VAT. If a couple do a 'mirror will' it will cost about £200 + VAT.

With that in mind, my elderly, widowed, uncle did a straightforward will at the solicitors & he donated £100 to the local hospice who were running the scheme. So he saved £80 (£150 + £30 VAT solicitor's fee).
