Rectal cancer

In November of last year my partner had a colonoscopy for rectal cancer, he has recovered very well but is having ongoing pain in his bottom and it is  extremely painful when sitting down. I would like to hear from others who have had this operation and are experiencing such pain.

  • Hello Ytherod

I'm sorry to hear that your partner is still struggling with some after effects of his procedure last year. It's certainly worth speak to his GP or Consultant if you've not already done so that they can assess if there is any particular reason for his continued pain. It may be that your GP is also able to refer for some advice re: seating from your local Occupational Therapy department.

I do hope that things improve for him soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn,

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I did buy a special cushion which was ok but then last week we were given an inflatable one by the hospital which seems much better. He was told that he could experience pain for some time.  The actual pain is just above his bottom not where he sits but will make an appointment with his GP as he hasn't got to see his Consultant for another 3 months.
Thank you for you kind wishes.
