Dermoid cyst pain

Hi, I've had an mri and been diagnosed with a 5.9 cm dermoid cyst on my left ovary. I've seen the gyny and he has put me on a waiting list for surgery. However, since then I have been having pain in my lower back, upper back, neck, left side and really deep dull aches in my thighs. I've been back to my gp twice and they just keep dishing out pain killers but the constant aches and pains are really getting me down and affecting my ability to do my job. I've had my first sick note ever! I rang the hospital to find out where I am on the waiting list and they've said JULY!!!! My gp has said that she will wrote a letter to expedite the surgery but who knows if that will be months or weeks. If anyone has had similar symptoms it would be great to hear from you.
in the back of my mind is still the worry that it could be something more sinister even though the blood tests are positive.
Where do I go from here?

  • Hi tululah,

I'm sorry to read about the pain you're experiencing at the moment - I can certainly understand that this must not be easy and is perhaps a little worrying too.

Try to trust in what the doctor has been telling you so far, and hopefully they will be able to get you an appointment sooner for the surgery.

To be proactive, and if things aren't improving, you could always make a note each day of any pain or symptoms - and if things aren't getting better or are getting worse, you can speak to your doctor again and talk things through to see what they suggest. It's of course important that you're able to manage things day-to-day.

If you'd like to discuss anything with our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Wishing you all the best and I hope things improve for you soon,

    Ben
