Brain tumour and driving

My son has a brain tumour and was given a 3 year licence he is on no medication and hasn't had any seizures - however the tumour has grown and he will need radio and chemo - the doctors said we should inform DVLA and he shouldn't drive.  Has anyone experienced this as my son Has no symptoms driving is his life the tumour is unable to be identified any ideas what the Dvla will say ?! Thankyou

    I'm sorry to read about your son, and I can imagine this makes it more difficult that he's been given this advice. It sounds like it would be sensible to listen to the doctors although I understand this must be tough if driving is important to him. It might be worth seeing what the DVLA say.

    However you may wish to get further opinions on this, and so if anyone here has any similar experience then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Hi Rodden,

    I'm sorry to say that I know a few cancer patients who have brain mets and they have had to inform DVLA. This link explains that your son must inform them. I believe that, regardless of any symptoms experienced, he will have to surrender his licence. I do know that some brain tumour patients have got their licence back after a period of time once treatment has shown their tumour(s) have disappeared with treatment. www.gov.uk/brain-tumour-and-driving
