Blue badge

After reading Cancer Research UK’s website my wife contacted North Tyneside Council’s Blue Badge Team to enquire about a blue badge, as I have started a long course of chemotherapy for my incurable prostate cancer.  The council officer stated that I was not entitled to a blue badge and that the information on the Cancer Research UK website is incorrect.  She is going to look at the website herself!

  • Hi there ...

It was on the morning t.v they are relaxing the rules for a blue badge ... maybe worth looking into ..

And whoever refused you a blue badge should hang their heads in shame... you keep fighting .. this day and age we have to fight for everything ..

At my local supermarket I see every time young fit people using a blue badge .. I know not all conditions can be seen .. but when they screech up .. jump out ... and jog to the shop, the mind boggles ... maybe a photo I.d to make sure is the way to go .. on a couple of occasion 6 cars didn't even bother with any badge at all ...   rant over ...

    But good luck ... chrissie  ; ))

  • Hi Ray

Years ago blue badge was for people who couldn't walk very well or at all but over the years it has relaxed a lot but it's mainly for people hue can't move around much on a permanent basis, i don't know if its changed but you usto need a letter from the Dr confirming why you kneed badge,, why do you want blue badge anyway, lve been uncurable prostate cancer for over 3 years don't kneed a badge.... • Hi Ray46,

Regardless of the cancer, if your mobility is affected you should apply. If it is refused, you have the right to ask for the application to be reviewed within 20 days of its refusal. You can read more on the North Tyneside council website here, if you haven't already, and Macmillan has some information too.

Also thank you for your feedback on one of the Cancer Research UK pages, I have passed this onto the appropriate team who will check for any discrepancies. There are hundreds of pages of cancer information, so if you have this particular page to hand that would be useful.

    Many thanks,

    Moderator Anastasia

  • Hi Billy...

Having a blue badge is needed at lots of hospitals as it's at a reduced rate ... and when there most of the day having treatment, I don't know what I'd have done without mine ... there's no way I could have afforded to go so often without mine ...

And I don't think I'd get out much without it .. as can't stand very well waiting for bus ... I think anyone going through chemo should get one automatically...  it's great you can manage but lots of us can't ...

Fingers crossed you get one Ray ...  Chrissie x
