What to do?

my husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer that has spread to his bones in January 2017.  We only found out about PIP two weeks ago while I was talking to a colleague at work. He has been put through the system as ‘special circumstances’ and should start getting his payments this week. I have two questions, the first being - who should have informed us that he was entitled to this payment and secondly is there any way we can get this back dated as we had no idea such a scheme existed. He had to take 8 months off work last year and we really struggled, if only we had known.  Please help us I don’t know which way to turn.

  • Dear ClareM, our McMillan nurse informed us at diagnosis.  They informed the DWP who telephoned us to say once a report was received payments would be made.  I had to chase the report for nearly four months but payment was made from the date of my husband's lung cancer diagnosis.  So get in touch with them and see if they can help.  Good luck, Carol
