Employers

Hi I'm going into work today I need to let my bosses know what's happening with me re cancer diagnosis. How did everyone deal with this. I feel guilty because I haven't told my family yet. I want to know the plan for treatment before I worry them, is that bad, god my head is a mess xx

  • Hi there ..

From what others have said on here, your employers have to put spiecial measures in place for someone with cancer and having treatment for it .. though I'm hoping when they know they will make sure everything is in place ... but you do have rights for work to work around your treatment ..

I know you think your saving your kids from worry ... but letting them know later just may hit them hard because you hadn't said anything to them before .. imagine if it was the other way round ... yes they will be upset / worried ... but they need to know .. it hurts more being kept outside the loop ... and once everyone's on board you'll all be able to help each other through and if you share tears with them, they learn it's o.k to share feelings instead of everyone trying to feel brave for the other, when in truth you'll all need a hug ...

We were gently honest even with my 5 year old granddaughter... told her nanny was very poorly but the Drs were going to TRY to make nanny better... and after my op, she cuddled me really gently as she knew she had to be gentle because nanny was very sore .. she is my life and who I'm fighting to stay with .. but because we've been honest with answers to questions she was really o.k with it all ...

Your not alone, there's lots of us breast lasses on here... sending you a vertual hug... Chrissie xx

  • Hi Anne as Chriss says tell people especially the young, , now you have C you are legally disabled so different work rules apply it can be complicated if you can find a macmillan office there should be one in local hospital or go online for more information. Good luck with your treatment,

    Billy
