Taxotere and Permanent Hair Loss

I came across this forum whilst researching Taxotere and permanent hair loss. I had breast cancer 8 years ago and am still suffering partial hair loss and hair thinning after all this time. I was told at the time of diagnosis I could try the cold cap but it wasn’t well tolerated and not always successful. All of the nurses and doctors at the time told me my hair would grow back, so I chose not to use the cold cap as didn’t want to be at the hospital longer than necessary. All I can say is hindsight would have been a great thing! I now therefore recommend to anyone worried about hair loss when going through chemo to give the cold cap a try. I now have to resort to daily useage of hair concealers and hair fibres to hide the hair loss or use of a hair enhancer.

  • Hello walshy39, a warm welcome to our forum and thank you for sharing your experience,

What a shame that Taxotere has caused permanent hair loss. Thank you also for your suggestions which will be useful to others who now find themselves in a similar position. You might be interested to know we've had a couple of threads in the past on the subject of Taxotere and permanent hair loss. Read, for example, [@JannieP]‍'s account here and also this thread from a few years ago now.

We also have some detailed information here on our website on the subject of hair loss, hair thinning and cancer drugs.

    Best wishes,
