Chicken pox

Hello I have been on chemo for the last 5 month for CLL I will be going to have my last cycle in two weeks time.

My grandsons school have informed us that one of the classmates is home with chicken pox. Should I be worried and does he need to stay away from me? He has no symptoms and have not yet had chicken pox yet even though he was exposed to it a few times while in nursery.

Please advice.

  • I’d check with your specialist but meanwhile keep your distance. Chicken pox is highly contagious and another problem is it has a very long incubation period (10-21 days); in other words your grandson may not develop visible signs of it until 2-3 weeks after infection.

You’re nearly at the end of your chemo. It would be a shame to jeopardise things now.
