Cold cap

I’ve been using the cold cap during chemo. I’ve recently shaved my hair. Can I still use the cold cap with shaved hair?

  • Hello Daveyrcl,

Thank you for posting a question. I am sorry to learn that you are having treatment for cancer.

I must admit that I am a little unsure about the answer to your question, But I think that it will be down to your chemotherapy team, in combination with you of course, to make this decision.

I am unsure how close a shave you have had and if you have any obvious hair. If you do, then the cold cap might protect this. If you don't have hair on your scalp, it may not be worth putting yourself through the cold cap. It can be a little uncomfortable to say the least. Occasionally hair can grow back during chemotherapy treatment, but the chances are that your hair won't grow very much, if at all, until after the chemotherapy has finished. So there would be little point in trying to reduce hair loss if you don't have much hair to save.

I am sorry that I cannot be more specific.  Please get back to us if you have any other questions.  If you would like to telephone the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Jean
