Another insurance worries

As in my intro I got the diagnosis a few weeks back.  However I had been fully employed up until April but then moved into the cotnracting and consulting world.  I knew I had to replace the benefits I had at my employer so straight away worked on putting in place life insurance.  I also had the option to extend my employers private Bupa medical insurance based on known facts in April when I left.

I got the life insurance in place one was 2 weeks before and the other 1 week before diagnosis and I had no expectation or indication from my GP that they were considering cancer until the point I got the diagnosis.  This makes me concerened they might not honour the life policies.  any advice on this would be helpful as I am paying a couple of hundred a month for the policies.

The private Bupa medical insurance I was told be the person setting it up I had to answer the questions as if they were asked on the 13th of April at which point I had no clue there was anything wrong in fact thought I was having the best yeaqr in decades regarding my health.

Should I initiate a claim on the Bupa policy ASAP to test this and does anyone know if I am likely to be insured or should I do something to also test the life policies?

  • Hello Alex666,

I am far from being an expert in this complex life insurance field myself but I just wanted to drop by and let you know that I have just responded to another member [@EllenM]‍ who was also having life insurance worries. You can read her story here and if you see my response on that thread, you will see a few links I have shared which may be of interest to you.

There is some information on the BUPA website about leaving your company scheme but if you're unsure then the best thing to do would be to ring BUPA and check that their hasn't been a break in cover.

I hope you will also hear from other members of the forum who may have been in a similar situation before and that they will be along soon with suggestions on how to proceed.

    Best wishes,
