Hodgkins lymphoma child custody

Good morning my son of 25 has just been diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma this week we are waiting on a pet scan result to see what stage he is at they said it could be a stage 2 but they have noticed a lump in his lungs so if the pet scan comes back that this lump is cancerous he will be a stage 4  all this has happened within the 18 days from my son's noticing a lump to getting all his tests done so as you can imagine a rollercoaster few days,he starts his chemotherapy in 2 weeks this is only because we told the consultant yesterday that my son has court next week for custody of his son,my grandson was removed from his mother's care last  year under an epo (emergency protection order) and has remained in my son's care ever since all the reports from the legal department and social worker are stating he should remain in my son's care the court case has already been adjourned once , today is Friday and my sons court case starts on Monday do we tell our solicitors as we are worried that this diagnosis will go against him.My grandson has a sibling that currently lives with another carer (not my son's child or my grandchild) and the only other option the court has which is what the mother is fighting for is that the siblings remain together and live with the other grandmother.Does anyone have any advise .xxxx

  • Welcome to the forum Archie.

I'm really sorry to read about the situation your son finds himself in right now. I can't imagine how tough this must be for him, especially as he is about to embark on fighting for custody of his son.

Hopefully some of our members will stop by to offer their support and advice soon but it may be worth getting in touch with Macmillan about this as many of our members have mentioned in previous posts how good they are at offering advice in practical situations such as these so do give them a quick ring if you have time to do so today.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you at this time but I want to know we are here for you and your son and to wish him well with his court case and the staging of his hodgkins lymphoma.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi there ...

I can only tell you what I'd do ... At this time l know it must be pushing you to the limits ... But l would fight for custody of my grandchild while your son's got his journey now ... That baby is a part of your son, and I would fight tooth and hammer to keep him with me , knowing what he's been through ...

You've sertanly got a mountain to climb, but that's what us mum's do .... We climb mountains for our kids ... And if you loose he will know one day how hard you fought ... So hang on in there ... Get advice from his representative... I'm sure it has to be confidential ... I would stress the fact he needs his child right now ... Sending you a vertual hug from one mum and nanny to another ...  Chrissie xx
