Welcome to Cancer Chat. Getting travel insurance after a cancer diagnosis can be difficult, but there are some companies who specialise in insuring people with known medical conditions. Like you, I shopped around when I was first diagnosed and either got a blank refusal to cover me, or offered a single holiday cover at astronomical rates.

I used to take out an annual insurance prior to this and was surprised when I contacted Stay Sure Insurance, as they still cover me annually for less than many other companies were charging me for a two week stay. If you use the search engine on the Cancer Research site you will find an article about holiday insurance. Also, if you click the search button on the blue band at the top of this page and type in holiday insurance, you will find previous discussions on the subject.

I hope that this helps and that both you and your Mum have a lovely relaxing holiday. It sounds as if you both deserve it.

Searching for previous threads is good advice.

Shop around but be wary of any that sound too good to be true as they may exclude the very condition that you need to insure. I've used InsureWith and AllClear in the recent past. I've struggled to get an annual policy due to my uncertain prognosis but single trip below 31 days has been easy enough.

Oh and bear in mind that the USA is about the dearest place on the planet to visit so far as travel insurance with cancer is concerned.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that my policy only covers me for Europe. No insurance company would cover me for America.

We used All Clear for my husbands insurance on our recent trip to Bali. His was around 450 but this was mainly becausw he was still on chemo and has a portacath fitted. We bank with Nationwide and their flexi plus account is amazing - we will need to pay a little bit extra for my husband but ita included in our account. Will let you know how we get on when we go to spain in october!

Been on insurancewith but ended up with a telephone number to call at the end of many questions. Will keep going though. 

Me too - but the woman I spoke to on the phone had all the information that I'd entered onto the website at her fingertips. Ironically, the reason they wanted to speak to me wasn't cancer-related but was about an unrelated log term condition. Now sorted :-)
