Child maintenance payments when you have cancer

Hi there,

My husband was diagnosed with cancer was not able to work since April 2017. I don't know if he will be able to work again at all and this is a big worry for him and myself.

My question is what happens with the Child Maintenance paiments that he needs to make if he is not working?

I try and work more to support the whole family and also to give him the money for the Child maintenance.

I am exhausted and I feel that there should be a way of at least reducing the paiment.

My husband is worried that if he stops the paiment, the mother will take him to court.

Any advice on that would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

  • Hi KimKim,

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and the reason you find yourself posting.

I know you're looking for information about payment support so I just wanted to let you know that we have a section on our website here which addresses financial matters. I hope you find this helpful but if you do have any questions our cancer nurses are just a phone call away. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and are available between 9-5p.m, Monday - Friday.

Do try and get in touch with your husband's medical team as well as they should be able to tell you more and point in the right direction to get the help and support you need at this time.

    Kind regards,
