Advanced prostate cancer

My husband has advanced prostate cancer which has spread to his spine, lungs and lymph nodes. His GP failed to diagnose this despite our concerns and completely ignored all the symptoms. He said he had PMR and put him on steroids, did not refer him to a specialist and did not send him for  a PSA blood test despite an enlarged prostate. His blood count was really low and despite telling the doctor he was feeling absolutely awful he did nothing about it until this had been going on for nearly a year.He subsequently had two transfusions when the hospital spotted it and they couldn't believe it had been allowed to get so bad. I am so angry with this GP. Is there anything we can do about this?

  • Hi Gill1954, so sorry to hear your story. You can make a complaint to the GP practice, and they are obliged to respond. If you are not satisfied you can take it further, and they will inform you of the next step. It can be very stressful indeed ar a time when you need all your emotional resources for your husband, but on the other hand your anger can be channellled and give you strength. There is an awful lot of paperwork, noting each time you were seen and fobbed off, and what actually was done when, exhausting and frustrating. What does your husband think about it? Can you both cope with it at this time? Look after yourselves first, but agree he should be accountable. Good luck, thinking if you. Xx
