Nausea

Hi my husband was found to have bowel cancer in November. They cut it all out, and he has a stoma bag . This will be reversed. At the moment he is having chemo to make sure all has gone. They changed his anti sickness meds. He doesn't want to eat, this cycle has really hit him. He's very irritable. He is very fatigued. Is there anything I can try to help him.

  • Hello Lissyann1,

I am sorry to hear your husband is struggling with nausea and fatigue. It does sound like this chemotherapy cycle has indeed hit me very hard. He is lucky to have your support as you do seem to be very caring and you are clearly doing your best to help him. It can't be easy for you too when he is very irritable and I hope you manage to look after yourself too in these difficult circumstances.

We have some helpful suggestions on our website on sickness and cancer drugs which you can read here it includes some good tips to help you reduce his sickness. One of the tips listed is ginger so worth trying that too and it can take the form of ginger ale or ginger tea.

We also have some information on fatigue from cancer drugs which you can access here and which I hope you will find useful.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to pick up the phone as I am sure they will have a lot of helpful suggestions on this.

I also hope you will hear from other people's experiences of nausea and fatigue here and that you will receive some top tips from our members.

    Best wishes,
