Holiday Insurance

Forgive me if this is not the correct place to ask this question but it was the first place I thought of ......

My dad was given good news today, that he is in remission.  As such he asked his doctor about being able to go on holiday and she said she could not see why not.

Myself and my husband are going to Tenerife at the end of February and we were hoping my mum and dad could join us if he received good news today.  However, his usual travel insurer won't insure him and staysure want nearly £900 for a 10 day holiday.

I was just wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience and was able to get a reasonable travel insurance quote.  Many thanks in advance xx

  • Well that was an interesting and extremely frustrating afternoon.

I spoke to InsureWith for 45 minutes going through everything in detail. At the end of it I was given a quote and told that the only medical condition not covered by the policy was something related to a recent holiday cancellation, which I accepted. The premium seemed very reasonable.

When the policy documents came through I discovered that almost every medical condition I had declared had been quietly declined, even things which had been under control for over ten years. What a good job I read through the small print before paying up or going on holiday. Bizarrely my Oesophageal Cancer was covered but my associated Metastatic cancer had been quietly declined - if I had needed to make a claim, how would they distinguish between the two?

I've just sent them two pages of queries and requests for clarification - asking them to re-quote for all my medical conditions.

Reading the small print is always a good idea!

    Cheers

  • £145 for a single 10 day trip to Malta. My primary cancer was covered but my mets weren't - despite my condition being stable for over three years. Also excluded were sleep apnoea, ulcerative colitis, reflux oesophagitis and hypertension (all long term conditions which have been under control for several years). Similar excess and medical cover to yours. Sapphire plus Pack 6 to cover my scuba diving to 40m (one of the main reasons for the trip).

I was more miffed that none of these exclusions were mentioned during the 45 minute phone call.

Back to the drawing board today :-)

  • Lol it is probably age-related as much as anything :-)
