Feeding options?

My husband has stage 4 bowel cancer with spread to the liver. The liver is currently so enlarged & inflamed that it is blocking his stomach & preventing him from eating. He had a nasogastric tube fitted at the weekend to relieve the pain and the medics tried and failed to fit a stent to the stomach last night. We are currently waiting for consultant to visit us to find out what type of feeding options we might be given- we have been told they might possibly do surgery on Saturday but we don't know what this would be? Any ideas?

  • Welcome to the forum Louise.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and that the attempt to fit the stent to his stomach was unsuccessful but I'm glad that the surgery to fit the nasogastric tube went well. Did the consultant get back to you about what feeding options would be available to your husband and the type of surgery they may be doing tomorrow? If you still don't know it may be worth giving our cancer nurses a call as they may be able to answer your questions. You can call them on 0808 800 4040, which is free to call from a UK landline, and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m-5pm.

If your husband does have surgery tomorrow do come back to let us know what happens.

    All the best,
