Long distance air travel for someone with leiomyosarcoma

Any tips / advice for someone with cancer travelling to Australia from the UK? For instance would it be better to have a long layover and break the trip up or get the journey done as quickly as possible? Things to take that might not be obvious beforehand until you need them then don't have them? Has anyone done the trip? How could it be made as comfortable as possible?

My mum is making the trip with my dad, she has leiomyosarcoma. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

    Thank you for your posting.

There isn’t any particular guidance as such on breaking up a journey. I think the issue of jetlag for example may still arise whether or not there is a significant break in the journey. Each person’s travel experience is different.

The usual sensible travel advice of doing passive leg exercises whilst sitting for long periods, and drinking plenty of fluids (but not alcohol) applies.

We have more detailed information on travel when you have cancer, on our website here,

Your relative could ask their own medical team or specialist nurse (if they have one) if there is anything particular to take into account.

I hope that this reply is helpful.
