Adjustable beds or chairs

My husband is terminally ill and is in a lot of pain that the drugs don't ssem to be able to help ease.  At night he can hardy sleep due to the pain and he finds it very had to get comfortable, move around or get up and out of bed.  We are considering getting an adjustable bed or chair for him to sleep in but before we spend a lot of money on something, is there a charity that let's us borrow something like this until the inevitable happens.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Sheena,

Welcome to Cancer Chat! I am sorry that your husband is in so much pain at the moment and I hope you will manage to find him a comfortable bed or chair to help him sleep and be more comfortable. I would suggest you talk to your GP or Macmillan/Marie Curie nurse, palliative care team or key worker as they may have some helpful suggestions for you.

This link contains useful information too on practical aids and equipment that may be available for someone with advanced cancer. We also found this information on financial aid for adjustable beds which seems very detailed and will hopefully be helpful to you.

Feel free also to phone the Macmillan benefits helpline who will be able to tell you more about the different grants that are available. You can find out more about this here

    I hope this helps!

Some of our members may also have some additional tips for you based on their own experience.

    Best wishes,
