should i still be feeling tired

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum so please bear with me.

I had rectal cancer in September 2013 I had an irreversible colostomy and was quite ill for 3-4 weeks in hospital and I followed that with 6 months chemo.. The cancer came back in my lung this time and as it was very small ( it was found with a routine ct scan ) I was admitted to hospital and had keyhole surgery , which was a breeze after the problems of the first op.

My question is should I still feel very tired? Today all I have done today is cleaned the bathroom , including shower and floor and packed 2 boxes of ornaments away. I feel really drained, but ,the Easter weekend I was feeling great and had the family here for an Easter egg hunt and felt much better than now.

  • I was diagnosed 2and half yrs ago  with bowel cancer had the chemo tabs and radiotherapy for 5wks constant, had the bag on for 3months then reversed. Just recently had another scan where they haver founf my insides of my vagina and rectumn fused, from surgery.

But to your question on tiredness, everyone is differant. Its all the treatment and batterings to your body that make you so tired with no energy. I know the feeling, one minute you are shatterered and need a nap then another day you can feel like yourself again (just). Its hard to trying to make arrangements in your life as you dont know how you are going to be on the day. All i can say its ok, normal to feel tired. Just go with it, the poison inside takes years n years to get out of your system. Do what you can when you can. I know that i wouldnt be here if it wasnt for cancer research so i know do a few hours at my local SRS charity shop and if im bad (still have trouble on the toilet) i phone up to say i wont be in and they r understanding. Little and often in your own pace.Fuel up rest x

  • hi Kerry,

thanks for your reply . I can't remember being this tired first time round, maybe the more they do to me the worse the tiredness gets.

. I too had the problem with a fused vagina/ bowel and the surgeon operated on this with my second operation( I have had 3 in total ). I hope yours is sorted out soon. I can't have a reversal but at least I am still here alive and kicking.
