  • I am a long way down the road on the cancer journey and have written this many times here to help others.

When I was on Tamoxifen, my lovely oncologist told me that it was more likely to be the additives in the medication rather than the actual Tamoxifen.  He told me to find an understanding chemist and ask him to order several different brands in for me (they always order the cheapest on the market at the time).

When the GP writes her/his prescription, ask the chemist to supply one or two months of tablets in each brand so that you can try a lot of different types.  You will be amazed at how the side effects vary!!!  I am not saying that the side effects will disappear completely but you will find that many become almost non-existent on the different brands of Tamoxifen.  Find one where everything is bearable and then stick to it.

There is also a mild anti-depressant that can help with hot flushes - so if a different brand doesnt help maybe try these too.

Let us know how it goes and the best of luck with everything x
