Mastectomy pain

Hi everyone, recently had a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction (am on day 8 now). I had an expander implant with a port. Am much more comfortable now the chest drains have been removed but can feel the port digging into my skin like a pin especially at night - so am having trouble sleeping. The port has to stay in for 3 months so am going to have to get used to it! Any advice to help put up with it or does it just take time for the skin to adjust around it??

Thanks for your post. I was sorry to read about your situation.

Although pain and discomfort is to be expected after reconstructive surgery, it’s probably a good idea to seek advice from your breast care nurse or a member of your healthcare team just to be on the safe side. They can check you over ( if necessary) and can prescribe some painkillers to help manage the pain.
