hi when can the pallative team support the familyx
Hi abc.1 My husband was told he had cancer at the beginning of Feb last year and sadly died on the !st August, but as soon as that diagnosis was given his GP arranged for a Macmillan nurse to see us. Over the following 6months she guided us through how to get benefits, altered medications and telephoned hospitals, if appointments/ consultations weren't coming along quickly enough. All in all, she was magnificent....looking after my well being as well as my hubby. She even called when our two grown up boys where visiting, just so they could put a face to the name. She made sure he got his wish to die at home with me and his precious boys by his side....and during his last days with us, we had the sevices of the Marie Curie and distric nurses....all were fantastic. I know of people who when asked if they want any intervention from Macmillan etc , decline and everyone is different. All I can say is without her help, our cancer journey would have been even more horrendous than it was. We hadn't a clue for example, that we could claim benefits because of a terminal diagnosis...hope this is of some help.xxxxx
