Is there any food or drink that tastes ok once you ge that metallic taste from your chemo. I have tried sweet, sour, spicy, etc and everything might taste good for 5 min and then back to the metallic taste

Hi Rocker
I know what you mean I'm enjoying strong fresh ground coffee.I've made a chilli for later so I'll have to see but last nights curry seemed very bland. Are you using a mouthwash? Not an easy fix I fear, maybe over time it will improve? I'm on radiotherapy for mouth cancer so it's a double whammy for my taste buds!!
Regards David
hi David
I wish I could have coffee. I noticed it turned my stomach and other Cancer patients found they had to give up coffee and beer.
I have tried mouthwash and even brushing my teeth with peroxide and baking soda. Helps a little but does not last. I did notice anything with choclate seems to be not too bad...so bye bye diet...lol
Just an update I've had some success with soy sauce in a stir fry with garlic prawns! I'm going to try a kedgeree tomorrow with smoked haddock and a bolied egg with some pilau rice Salt seems to be the key so far !
David
Jamie who?
Hi David ...... sounds delicious - what time do you want us round lol?! X
Ha
I used to cook for 15 of us at the Fire Station So do drop in Maybe bring a bottle of White Rioja with you
I wish!!
David
Sounds every women's dream haha! Hope you go into work to see your mates regularly. Hubby and I recently went to a mates birthday party who is a fireman and the camaraderie was incredible. I would imagine they would be very supportive to one of 'their own' during difficult times x
we should all meet at Davids regularly for supper....might not be good for my diet but tasty
Hope he's got a big house, and you can supply the music! I'll volunteer to do the washing up lol ! X
I'll rock the house. David does the cooking and we get the place cleaned up and grow fatter eating all his food....what a great plan
I went off several things when I was on chemo, for the same reason. Even good red wine tasted like vinegar and single malts tasted like cough medicine mixed with iodine! Fortunately my taste buds returned to more or less to normal within a few weeks of finishing chemo.
I'm not advocating going against medical advice, but I did find that gin and tonic tasted OK and that ginger beer seemed to help settle my stomach. I went off real ale big time, but bizarrely Stella was OK (I normally can't stand the stuff).
Coincidentally, I also ate and enjoyed quite a lot of fresh fish and seafood, as well as eggs and of course homemade peanut butter and banana milkshakes.
:-)
