Asbestos on clothes???

Well I was in this abandoned warehouse, we went 4-5 times, the total time in there about 15 minutes. Is there any chance the asbestos fibres will damage me or cause any disease? I am 14 years old and I am very healthy, I would never smoke. Although I am not sure the place contains asbestos, but it is likely. The place is very open and air can easily enter the place. The question I really need to know is will it damage me and stay on my clothes? My mom has washed them at least twice since the exposure(s)

  • Hello Alexander,

    Welcome to our friendly forum!

It is hard for someone else to tell you not to panic if you feel you may have been exposed to a life threatening substance but you must try and keep in mind that over the years there have been millions of people exposed to asbestos and only a small percentage of them actually became sick as a result. There is a very good possibility that nothing will ever come of your brief exposure to asbestos but it’s important to speak to a doctor or nurse as soon as possible. Give your doctor a call or NHS direct. You will also need to let them know that your mum has handled your clothes.

If the building you were entering has Asbestos in it you must report it. Ask your mum to either contact the Health and Safety Executive on 08701 545500 or call your Environmental Health Department at your local council.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you, I am not so worried about exposure to asbestos as I know I will not develop a disease but idk what to do with the clothes people constantly say throw them away, but what if there was no airborne asbestos? All I can say is I did not touch or intefere with anything. I was mostly outside. Thank you again for your help!
