Basal Cell Carcinoma diagnosis but off on holiday of a lifetime in 6 weeks - worried about how this now affects my travel insurance. Can anyone offer any advice

Hi there,

Last week after a visit to a skin doctor ,it was confirmed that a spot on my cheek is a BCC.

I explained to the doctor that I was booked to go on holiday in 6 weeks time for my 25th wedding anniversary and she said it was fine to leave the removal till after that.

My concern now (as well as the cancer diagnosis!) is regarding travel insurance. I already have a policy in place but my concern is they will not let me go if I declare it.

Can anyone offer any advice that has been in a similar situation please.

Thank you

  • It had no effect on my travel insurance when I declared mine. I was able to travel but just wasn't covered for the bcc. Was no point in being covered for it really - not like it could become an emergency abroad or be removed while away.

Hopefully you will find the same. Make sure you protect it well if going to the sunshine. I think better it's removed after holiday as you'd worry about healing and protecting a newly healing wound etc on holiday.

  • Thank you for your reply and that does put my mind at ease.

I have contacted my dermatologist to see what is in my notes as I assume they can't tell for sure it's 'cancerous' until they have removed it and that won't happen until after my trip.

I want to do the right thing but not jeopeordise my holiday

    Thanks again
