Helpful info if looking for travel insurance- Nationwide flex plus perks for monthly fee

I found travel insurance to be extremely expensive, but necessary so I just paid whoever it was - about £600 for last 2 weeks last year.

My background:

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer Jan 2024, had resection Feb 2024 and 6 months capecitabine oral chemo. I had a temp stoma. Went in for stoma reversal in Nov 2024 and what a terrible time I had. Ended up with necrosis in large bowel and had completion colectomy ,Collapsed lung, sepsis, 2 nights in ICU, lost 2 stone and in hospital 22 nights. Anyway  im recovering well, alive but with a permanent stoma, a small price to pay given what i'd been through.

So that my background which when all declared came in very hefty, the least being about £600 again.

I have Nationwide flex plus account which amongst other insurances & perks, has worldwide travel insurance for me and my family. I signed up for monthly fee of £18/mth and had to do a screening which meant I paid an extra £121 to be covered for the year with everything declared.

I thought this was a very good deal and gave me peace of mind for as long as I continue to pay the monthly fee.

Just thought it might ne a less expensive option for people.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

Travel insurance can feel incredibly expensive after a cancer diagnosis, and it’s hugely helpful to hear how you’ve found a more affordable route through your Nationwide Flex Plus account. Paying a monthly fee and going through a one-off screening, all in exchange for peace of mind for you and your family, sounds like a really thoughtful approach and certainly seems more cost-effective than paying a big lump sum every time you travel.
