Struggling to find travel insurance for husband who is on active surveillance for prostate cancer

My Husband is newly diagnosed with prostrate cancer he is not-having treatment but is on Active surveillance.  I have spent hours trying to find a travel  insurance  that include active surveillance , every company so far only offer watch and wait, the consultant has said that this is totally different to active surveillance . Can anyone advise please as i am so concerned about declaring something inaccurately and we do want to continue going on holiday

  • Hi Skipp,

I can imagine this is a really stressful time for you having to deal with travel insurance and you're right that it's important to make sure you are declaring everything accurately so that you can continue to go on holiday with peace of mind. You will find on our website a useful page on active surveillance and watchful waiting for prostate cancer which will give you all the details on these two ways of monitoring prostate cancer and not having treatment straight away. I would also maybe get in touch with our cancer nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to explain to you what active surveillance and watch and wait mean and answer any questions you might have.

There is also information on our website on travel insurance and cancer which I hope you will find useful and give you some good tips. Hopefully you will also hear from others on here who have been in a similar place to your husband on active surveillance for prostate cancer and who managed to get good travel insurance cover and I hope that they will be able to point you in the right direction.

You're right to continue to want to go on holiday and I hope that you have found your next dream destination!

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you I have had the difference between watch and wait and active surveillance explained and am assured it is very different which is why I need to get it right, thank you . I can’t find anyone that has posted a similar question but will keep looking again thank you so much for replying, there must be so many people in this situation which is why I find it baffling that the insurance companies don’t include  active surveillance
