Returning to work after having a prostatectomy - how will I cope?

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had prostatectomy towards the end of January. A lot changed in my personal life and I wonder how I will cope in a workplace as I contemplate to return to work next Month.

  • Hello CBUCHA1969,

I hope that you have recovered well from your prostatectomy. A cancer diagnosis can have so many repercussions and it is normal to feel a little bit nervous about your return to work especially if a lot has also changed since in your personal life. You are not alone though having to make that important step to return to work after taking time off due to cancer and you have come to the right place to talk to others who have been through this before. I hope that they will be along shortly to share their coping strategies with you.

Macmillan have a wealth of information on returning to work which I strongly recommend you have a good look at. It looks into things like coping with side effects at work, making a return-to-work plan and asking your employer to make reasonable adjustments if needed. They also have a useful page with work and cancer FAQs

I hope this helps a little and I wanted to wish you the best of luck for your return to work next month. Take it easy though and I am sure it will all go well and that you will be happy to be back in the workplace!

    Best wishes,
