Ovarian cancer - worried my claim for insurance will be rejected. Does anyone have any advice?

Hey everyone. I’m new to this but was just wondering whether anyone has had the same experience. In October I had to have a major operation as I had a large mass on my ovaries which was actually 40cm!! Stayed in hospital etc and 2 weeks later I got the results and it was stage 1a ovarian cancer but removed and no further treatment was needed although I did have an ovary and tube removed. It came as a huge shock and with having to have so much time off work on only SSP a family member asked if I had life or critical illness insurance. I submitted my claim which is still ongoing after going back and forth to my GP and consultant. I should hear something this week but I’m just concerned as they asked for more information regarding wrist pain, reflux and smoking. I have never smoked only used a 0% nicotine vape occasionally which I did mention to my GP. None of these things are obviously related and I have always been fit and well and rarely ever go to the doctors. It’s getting so close now and I’m so anxious they may reject my claim even though my illness is listed. Any advice would be hugely appreciated x

  • Hi Jhow123 and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry to hear you were diagnosed with ovarian cancer but I'm glad the mass was successfully removed and no further treatment has been needed.

Waiting for news is always tough, but I hope you have heard back since making this post and your claim has been accepted. If you have any problems or issues with your claim then don't hesitate to get in touch with Macmillan as they have financial advisers you can speak to about this. The cancer charity Maggie's and Citizen's Advice may be able to help with any problems you encounter as well.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar position will be along soon to offer their support and advice, but in the meantime, we're sending you all our support Jhow and wishing you all the best moving forward.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
