Yes, you should be able to. If you contact Macmillan they will be able to help you through the form filling process. They will also be able to advise if you are eligible for any other benefits. They helped me a great deal last year.
Exception for this is when you are expected to live for less than a year and then there's a special form your cancer nurse can fill in to directly apply.
