Signed off work and receiving SSP pay. Am I entitled to anything else even if I have a partner?

I've recently been diagnosed and am signed off work, due to operations. Ssp pay for so long but can I get any help even if I have a partner ?

I don't even know where to go for advise.

  • Macmillans cancer support have welfare rights advisors. Give them a ring, see if they can help. Hope that helps a little.

  • Hi Sarah, you don't mention whether you have been diagnosed with cancer or currently waiting for tests etc. I'll assume the former. You will be entitled to PiP. However, you want someone that knows their way around that to do it for you. It's not income based or means tested. What i mean about someone doing it for you, there's a knack to filling these forms out. Many people unwittingly do themselves out of money. You want to explain every on your worst day, rather than saying you're fine some days doing this and doing that. They'll assume if you're fine one day, then you can be getting on with things. So always run with your worst day. Medications are important too. The more meds, and the stronger those meds are also go towards your points.

So yeah, get advice before filling that form in. Maggies etc are ace for filling forms out.

  • Thank you. Yes diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I won't be able to do much after the hysterectomy but then I'm guessing or hoping I will be generally back to normal, so don't really know if pip is suitable as I'm hoping to go back to work after my recovery from hysterectomy.  I've no idea how chemo will affect me or my work
