The hidden costs of having cancer!

I’ve been quiet here for a while but felt I needed to comment on this topic. As I didn’t know until now that there were unusual costs associated with this, My other half Alex has now had a second round of chemotherapy and both of us have been attending hospital appointments. Because I have a disability I can’t use public transport and have generally had to use taxis to travel to hospitals with him (plus the hospital visits when he was an inpatient) and would guess that so far it’s cost over £400 this might not sound like much but we’re already on benefits because of my disability and the money is coming from our funeral fund so because he’s got Chronic Mylomonocytic Leukaemia and might die sooner rather than later it’s scary how much more expense is coming our way!

He has a match for a transplant at the big hospital (but he’s extremely scared and is wobbling about whether to go ahead with it) but travelling there will cost £70 a time and as he’s going to be an inpatient for weeks I will have to visit him several times a week I might be able too use community transport for come of the visits but it’s the holiday season and they don’t have as many drivers at this time of year, also I’ve often found when I’ve tried to make a booking they’ve got nothing available at the specific times so I’ve had to use a taxi instead for my trip to the doctor/dentist or supermarket etc, so where does the money come from?

Think about it visit 3 times a week for 6 weeks at £220 a week £1320 out of our funeral fund! Pip doesn’t cover a third of the cost even at the highest rate (I don’t get this)
