Travel insurance with advanced cancer

Hi my dad has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. Despite this my dad is a very fit and well person and is still very active. I’d like to take my dad on holiday but have been quoted over a thousand pound for holiday insurance. Is this what I should expect to pay? Any advice would be great thank you

  • Yeah, travel insurance with the word "cancer" mentioned anywhere is notoriously expensive. Usually more than the cost of the actual holiday. Even for those who have had the all clear or just went in for further testing, and never had a cancer. They basically assume you'll end up needing some sort of care and they want you to pay for it all. You'll never stumble upon a poor insurance company.

I'm sure this site has an article on insurance and the best places to get it from, but it will be expensive regardless. I don't suggest you do this, but there's people who take the risk and go without.

  • Hi sophiec99,

ProfBaw has made some very good points and to follow up on his suggestion to read up more information on this on our website, we do have some guidance on getting travel insurance.

As this is a topic that comes up quite a bit on the forum, you may find it helpful to search (using the bar at the top of the page) for other similar discussions on here. By doing this you should be able to find recommendations from others of specific providers.

I hope that others will respond with their personal experiences.

    Best wishes,
